The oldest idea in commerce, kept sharp

Sterling Cooper, Inc. concentrates on an old business idea founded by the Dutch East India Company: Merchant Banking. We pair it with business advisory services on deals for our clients in acquisitions, advertising, web design, and public relations.

We are your instant response team when you need a ready team for acquisition / divestiture consulting, advertising, marketing, or public relations. We can offer advice in all areas necessary to buy or sell a business, and provide all advertising and marketing with our exclusive “IMPACT 77” division, including internet marketing.

Business transactions today require the ability to structure all elements with speed and precision, and we are disciplined in both areas. Decisions are made quickly, and execution begins immediately.

Our principals are experienced business advisors, valuation analysts, and M&A advisors who have been involved in over 3,700 buyouts, acquisitions, friendly and unfriendly takeovers, bids, appraisals, and financing consultations. They have been personally involved in direct acquisitions of operating companies, the largest with revenues approaching $900 million, including a NYSE-listed company acquired in a tender offer. Across their careers they have structured transactions with an aggregate value exceeding $70 billion. When you engage Sterling Cooper, you work directly with those principals.

Through our buying group, clients, and partners, our clients have access to a network representing over $200 billion in combined assets, along with intermediaries and investment banks worldwide. That reach gives us substantial deal availability for review, and the flexibility to find the right opportunities for your business.

The record, in plain terms

Powerful numbers deserve plain explanations. Here is exactly what each figure means, and what it does not.

100+Years of Combined Experience

The cumulative professional experience of the firm’s principals and senior advisors across merchant banking, M&A, operations, and advisory practice. It reflects the depth of the team, not the age of a single individual or entity.

3,700+Transactions Advised

The cumulative number of buyouts, acquisitions, friendly and unfriendly takeover bids, appraisals, and financing consultations in which our principals have been involved over the course of their careers, spanning manufacturing, transportation, retail, contracting, printing, distribution, banking, and real estate.

$200B+Buying Group & Client Network

The approximate combined assets of the firm’s buying group, together with our clients and partners. This network gives our clients access to intermediaries and investment banks worldwide and substantial deal availability for review. It is not capital managed, held, or invested by Sterling Cooper. We are not fund managers.

$70B+Transaction Value Structured

The approximate aggregate value of the transactions our principals have structured or advised across their careers, spanning buyouts, acquisitions, divestitures, and financings. It reflects deal value advised upon, not capital deployed or managed by the firm.

$900MLargest Direct Acquisition

The approximate revenues of the largest company in whose direct acquisition our principals were personally involved. Their experience also includes the acquisition of a New York Stock Exchange–listed company through a tender offer.

All figures reflect the combined experience and relationships of the firm’s principals, buying group, clients, and partners, as described above. Past experience is not a guarantee of future results.

Message from Our Chief Executive

On responsibility, legacy, and the standard our practice demands.

To the owners, founders, and stewards of businesses,

Merchant banking is one of the oldest ideas in commerce, and decades of practicing it have taught me a simple truth: a business is never just a balance sheet. It is years of early mornings, payroll met and promises kept, a name that a family or a community has come to rely on. When an owner sits across from us, considering a sale, an acquisition, or the next decade of growth, we are being trusted with more than a transaction. We are being trusted with a life’s work.

That trust is the standard we hold ourselves to. It is why we move with speed and precision, because in a transaction, time is rarely on the owner’s side. It is why we do not merely make recommendations. We stay to implement them. And it is why we deal only in practical, proven methods rather than gimmicks: the same disciplines I have spent more than forty years refining, deal by deal, through trial, error, and hard-won lessons.

My commitment to you is straightforward. We will tell you the truth, even when it is not what you hoped to hear. We will guard your confidence as if it were our own. We will treat your company with the care of an owner, because we have been owners. And you will always deal with us directly, with the people whose names stand behind the work.

Institutions endure when their word is good and their work is better. That is the legacy this firm was built on, and the one we intend to leave.

We are looking forward to doing business together.

Message from Our President

On foundations, the future, and the answer we intend to be.

To those who intend to build something that lasts,

I was raised on the stories of the great houses of finance: the ones that put capital and conviction behind railroads, fleets, and industries before the world believed in them. What made those houses great was never money alone. It was discipline, judgment, and the willingness to put their own names on the line. That is the tradition Sterling Cooper carries, and the standard I hold this firm to every single day.

My own work sits at the frontier: blockchain, artificial intelligence, and the digital settlement infrastructure that will move value through the next century of commerce. That work has carried me across the world’s financial capitals, into partnerships with billion-dollar technology companies, onto the stages of Harvard, MIT, and Princeton, and into reports on the future of money and technology contributed on Capitol Hill and at the United Nations General Assembly. Everywhere, the lesson is the same. The future belongs to the people who build its foundations. Everyone else pays rent to them.

At Sterling Cooper, we join that frontier to a century of discipline. The same rigor our principals brought to thousands of transactions now guides how we help businesses, institutions, and governments modernize the infrastructure beneath their operations. New rails, old rules: tell the truth, protect the client, finish the work.

And one thing about this house will never change. Here, you are never handed off and never managed at a distance. You sit across from the principals themselves, and we answer for our own work.

History does not remember who watched. It remembers who built. We intend to be the answer.
